MILTON Keynes proved too powerful for Blackburn Hawks as they romped to a 14-2 Premier Cup victory.

The Premier League side simply had too many imports in their line-up and the Hawks were on the back foot almost from the off.

The hosts rattled the Hawks with a six-goal salvo in the first period and quickly increased their lead to 8-0 in the second before the visitors found the net.

Player-coach Bobby Haig grabbed an unassisted goal on 27 minutes, but Milton Keynes hit two more to go into the final session 10-1 to the good.

With Robbie Smith and teenager Nick Saxton sharing the goal-minding duties again, the Hawks came under consistent pressure as Milton Keynes' foreign legion' fired in 58 shots to the Hawks' 24.

There was no let-up in the third for the Hawks shipped a further four goals.

Adam Leaver, however, finished off a good move involving Matt Southall and Adam Fuller, as the Hawks had the final say.

"I'm not too worried about this one, there's no way we are going to win the Premier Cup," admitted Haig.

"It was a great learning experience for the lads and, to be honest, we didn't play too badly at all."

Haig's men are hoping to get back to winning ways when Sunderland visit the Arena on Sunday for an English National League (North) fixture.

Back in November, the Hawks defeated Sunderland Chiefs in a challenge match on home ground. Sunday's match gives the Hawks a great opportunity to get

their play-offs campaign back on course.
