MASKED armed robbers raided a Ramsbottom bank on Wednesday.

Two men entered the Royal Bank of Scotland on Bridge Street at 9am and threatened staff with a knife before escaping with a substantial quantity of cash. The first man is described as 5ft 7ins, of slim build and he was wearing a fluorescent jacket, a black balaclava and black gloves.

The second man was 5ft 11ins and was wearing a balaclava and a dark grey tracksuit style top.

The pair escaped in a Silver Audi Estate which was found abandoned nearby a short time later. It had been stolen from an address in Bury. Det Insp Bill Beddows from Bury CID today said: "This was a terrifying experience for all the staff and fortunately no-one was injured during the raid."
