RAMSBOTTOM United boss Vince Overson is praying for a break in the Weather
Deprived of a league game since December 2 (when Rammy won 1-0 at Skelmersdale) due to the fixtures against Clitheroe, Bacup and Atherton being postponed, Rammy have been restricted to cup action.
However, they were knocked out of the FA Vase (2-1 to Gedling Town) in the middle of December and on Tuesday night their interest in this season's Lancashire Marsden Challenge Trophy was ended after losing 3-2 at home to Nelson, Lee Buggie getting a brace
"We've been out of action for some time now, so we weren't match fit and you could tell," said Vince.
"So I wasn't expecting a startling display, but I was expecting a better one than we produced.
"I can accept being out-classed by a better team but I can never accept being outworked and that's what happened. We gifted them three goals through simple defensive mistakes.
"However, if we were going to produce a below-par display I'm glad it was in the cup and not in the league, hopefully we've got it out of our system."
Weather permitting Rammy visit Glossop North End for a league game tomorrow and Overson can hardly wait.
"I just hope it goes ahead and it's not postponed! We desperately need a run of games to get our match fitness back.
"I've not mentioned our approach to this game because the players already know what my approach is to every game.
"I voiced my opinion in the dressing room on Tuesday night vociforously, they know I was not happy."
But will Mr Nice turn into Mr Nasty?
"When I took over the managership I decided to leave the team alone because I thought it was good enough," he said.
"But if there isn't an improvement I will have to think seriously about making one or two changes. I want a positive reaction. I want more bite."
He then confirmed that goalkeeper Paul Eatock has joined Salford City.
"He's very close to the manager and feels he owes him something, I just wish the lad all the best, he did well for me here."
But it is not all doom and gloom: "The good news is Mark Stuart has turned down the chance to return to Clitheroe and is staying with us," said Vince.
So, out of the FA Vase and out of the Lancashire Marsden. But Rammy are in the NWCFL Challenge Cup quarter finals on Saturday 24 January when they face Great Harwood Town at the Riverside.
While in the league Rammy may well lie 18th but they do have games in hand, provided the weather allows them to be played of course.
