AN East Lancashire doctor accused of misconduct after the wrong kidney was removed from a patient who later died is to face a General Medical Council disciplinary hearing.
Registrar Dr Mahesh Chand Goel, 41, who formerly resided at Burnley General Hospital, is accused of serious professional misconduct. His colleague, consultant John Gethin Roberts, 61, of Swansea, is also accused of the same charge.
They are both now registered at Prince Philip Hospital, in Llanelli, South Wales.
Korean War veteran Graham Reeves, 70, of Burry Port, South Wales, died in March 2000 five weeks after his healthy kidney was removed at the Prince Philip Hospital.
Both doctors were cleared of manslaughter in June 2002 after the case against them collapsed at Cardiff Crown Court.
Dr Goel, a registrar in the Urology department, faces allegations of wrongfully excising a patient's only good kidney. The hearing will be held in London on Monday.
