A BLACKBURN councillor and three youths who were arrested after an incident involving his car will not face charges, it was revealed today.

Robin Evans, who won his Mill Hill ward standing for the BNP but has since resigned from the party, was told by police he will not face prosecution over the incident in Blackburn last October.

And he revealed today that he had been informed the youths who were arrested had not been charged either.

Coun Evans and three youths, who were not named, were arrested in Burnley Road after the councillor's car was damaged. The rear windscreen of the Ford Mondeo estate car, which had two St George flags attached to its roof, was smashed.

Police investigated allegations that the incident involved violence.

Coun Evans and the three Asian youths were arrested after an off-duty policeman intervened and were taken to Greenbank police station for questioning. Coun Evans was later released on bail pending further inquiries.

He has since been told that the Crown Prosecution Service had decided no further action should be taken.

A police spokesman said: "Mr Evans has been told by us that he will not face charges."

Coun Evans, who has formed his own Blackburn National Socialists party since resigning from the BNP over "organisational differences", said: "I am glad I will not face charges."

Blackburn police said they were were unable to confirm if the three Asian youths were likely to face any action.

Coun Evans has also been involved in two other incidents unconnected to the incident for which he was arrested.

In July last year he was involved in another altercation with a man outside a takeaway shop in Bolton Road. A 24-year-old Asian man was interviewed about the alleged racially motivated attack but released without charge.

A month later his car was attacked while parked outside the home of his ex-wife, which is also in Darwen.
