I AGREE with former policeman Adrian Shurmer of Great Harwood, about the fact that speed cameras located around Lancashire are nothing more than a way of ripping off and exploiting hard working motorists.
I say, hard-working, because the police and the Government know that by the time you have taken a day off work to state any claim of unfairness that would probably result in a fine anyway, it is easier to take the option of paying up.
MP Greg Pope is right that the bond of trust between motorists and the police may have been damaged. I would say it's been shattered. The speed camera on Whalley Road, Great Harwood, is one of the worst offenders.
In your given statistics there has only been one fatality and 14 minor accidents on this road over a period of years. This camera is making the Government, police and LPFRS thousands of pounds a week in revenue and this is only one camera.
I feel the police and our judicial system are aiding and abetting a government that makes criminals out of ordinary members of the public.
L ASHCROFT (Mrs), Blackburn Road, Great Harwood.
