A MOTHER of three went on a £116 shoplifting spree at Asda to get her children Christmas presents, Burnley magistrates were told.

The court heard how Tracey Sullivan, 40, had had a miserable festive season on benefits and had lots of problems.

Sullivan, who was in breach of a conditional discharge and has 25 previous convictions for theft, was bailed until January 16 for a pre-sentence report after admitting theft.

She was banned from Burnley's Asda.

Joanne Shahzada, prosecuting, said the defendant was stopped and arrested in the store car park after walking out with a trolley full of goods.

Her last conviction was for theft last December 17.

Steven Banks, defending, said Sullivan had co-operated with police. She had had a chaotic life in the last few months and had been moving from address to address. She was still looking for more permanent premises.

He said Christmas had been a problem with three children. The defendant had had a miserable time on benefits and stole to buy presents.

She did not abuse drugs or alcohol.
