REGARDING John Shorrock's letter about Church Street. It's obvious that the underhand way the council shut off Church Street to traffic was part of a money-making scheme to take away any bit of free parking we had and put parking metres everywhere.
Even streets with yellow lines for years were turned into parking bays to make a few more quid for these greedy people.
I believe Church Street was never really meant as a pedestrian area, but was earmarked as a money-earning car park.
