HAVE some people taken leave of their senses? On Tuesday, January 6, on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2, a woman, an MP I think, was advocating that all homes should be fitted with a special valve to regulate the temperature of the water that exudes from the hot tap.
Her reasoning was that it would prevent vulnerable people from being scalded by water that was too hot and, unbelievably, there was someone who agreed with her. He was a plumber who sold such devices so he would agree, wouldn't he? She also volunteered that the Government would set the temperature.
I already have a thermostat on my heating system that does precisely that, so why do I need this interference?
So what next? Ovens that will not inflict injury because they will not get hot enough? Electric kettles that will never boil water just in case someone accidentally touches the outside?
The woman would be better employed nagging the Government to find more resources for hospitals, schools and emergency services rather than inflicting her ridiculous ideas on we ever-suffering public.
