AN 85-YEAR-OLD woman died after she was struck by a car driven by an 83-year-old man.
Annie Loughrey was crossing Bury Old Road, Prestwich, on Friday at about 9am when she was struck by a Ford Fiesta .
The pensioner, of Bury Old Road, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the North Manchester General Hospital where she later died.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, in particular two people who stopped at the scene.
Following the collision, a man who was travelling south along the road in a silver Mercedes got out of his car to help.
He said he was a doctor and went over to the woman who was lying on the floor.
Another woman in a nurse's uniform also joined him and they tried to help the woman.
Insp Andy Hudson, who is leading the investigation, said: "People that we have spoken to at the scene of the collision stated that these two people were extremely helpful in offering first aid to the woman.
"Unfortunately both of them had left the scene before their details could be taken.
"The doctor has been described as wearing a turban and carrying a stethoscope and the woman said that she was a midwife.
"We really would like to talk to both of these kind people who offered their help as they could hold vital information about the collision and the subsequent death of the woman."
Information can be passed to the Bury Traffic Unit on 0161 856 8072.
