BURNLEY boss Stan Ternent has urged his side to build on an unbeaten start to 2004.

The Clarets moved up one place in Division One as a result of a second successive clean sheet in a hard-earned 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

And Ternent believes his side have everything to play for over the coming months if they can maintain a defensive mean streak.

Ternent said: "We have had a couple of clean sheets now and I suppose mountains are built on things like that. We need to build one, so I'm happy with that.

"It's unlike us not to score some goals and it's also unlike us not to concede them. But I would prefer to have a clean sheet and see if we can build on that.

"We have been playing quite well and it's pretty obvious when you look at the stats that we have been conceding far too many goals.

"On the other hand we are probably in the top half-dozen scorers in the division, so we need to make a start with clean sheets and picking points up as we go.

"Obviously you would like to win games, but we have to start somewhere and that's two clean sheets this year and a good return."

Ternent is now turning his attentions to two successive home games that could shape the Clarets season.

He explained: "We have West Brom to look forward to next week, which will be another big test for us because they are a good side.

"Then we have the FA Cup game at home to Gillingham, so we have a lot to play for, albeit we are at the wrong end of the table which is unusual for us.

"It's all there for us to look forward to."
