A FYLDE man has died and his mother left fighting for her life after being involved in a head-on collision with a Ferrari in Hambleton over the weekend.

John Rossall, 50, and mother Mary, 76, were driving along Carr Lane, at Hambleton, when the accident occurred at around 12.10pm on Saturday, January 3.

It is believed their car, a Peugot 205, collided head-on with a Ferrari Modena driven by a 36-year-old man at the junction of Sower Carr Lane in the village.

Mr Rossall, a farmer of Burned House Lane, Preesall, had to be cut free from the wreckage by fire rescue crews.

He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital along with his mother, who suffered serious injuries in the crash, but he died shortly after arrival.

Mr Rossall's nephew, Edward Rossall, 6, was also travelling in the car at the time of the crash.

He suffered "non-life-threatening" facial injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital after being treated by paramedics at the scene.

Mrs Rossall remains in hospital in Blackpool where she was described today (Monday) as in a "serious but stable" condition.

The driver of the Ferrari has been arrested in connection with allegations of unlawful taking of a vehicle.

Both cars have been written off.
