GREAT Harwood lost their second NWCL Division Two game in a row against Maine Road at the Showground.
Despite starting the stronger, the Robins fell behind on 30 minutes after Chappell stepped up to stroke home a penalty conceded by keeper Bobby Harris.
Shortly after, Town were caught napping as the visitors took a quick freekick, allowing Simms to hit number two.
Following a half-time blast from manager John Hughes, the hosts responded immediately through Neil Zarac after Paul Mashiter's effort had come back off the bar.
Darren Rogers, Mashiter and Zarac then forced the Manchester side's keeper into a series of good saves as Town went in search of an equaliser.
Maine Road had the final say, however, as Chappell latched on to a misguided Ryan Parr header to stroke the ball home.
Boss Hughes, who picked up the NW Counties Manager of the Month award before the game, said: "There was a distinct lack of communication between the players and that is something we must rectify if we want to go back on a winning run."
