ROSSENDALE keeper Mark Andrews produced an outstanding display of goalkeeping at Dark Lane on Saturday. But in the end it was former Dale favourite Craig Sargeson who had the last laugh, scoring deep into injury time to give the visitors a deserved three points.

Andrews produced a string of superb saves throughout the match as Witton dominated for long periods while Dale struggled to get out of first gear.

Witton's Mike Moseley hit a shot from distance just over the bar in the opening exchanges, then Dave Nolan was denied twice in the first 20 minutes by Andrews, tipping his first effort over the bar then somehow clawing out the winger's header.

Darrell Dicken was the next to be denied, before Dale finally got some sort of footing on the game.

Blake Norton was the only real threat that the Dark Lane men possessed in the opening 45 minutes as he gave Witton full back Gareth Evans a torrid time, and it was from one of Norton's crosses that Dale had their only effort of note before half-time.

Lee Duffy forced a good save from Paul Gibson, who tipped his shot over the bar. Norton curled a shot just wide straight after the break, but Dale were soon thanking Andrews once more as he pushed Moseley's blockbuster away for a corner.

Dale had their best spell in the final quarter of the game. Simon Burton volleyed over while Chris Fitzsimmons wasted a golden opportunity, electing to shoot from a tight angle instead of crossing to Steve Cunningham or Chris Brooks who would have had a simple tap in.

Brooks almost opened the scoring but Gibson was quick off his line to block the midfielder's effort.

Substitute Steve Bird and Dave Gamble also went close.

But it was left to Sargeson to remind the Dale fans of what they have been missing and condemn them to only their second defeat at home all season.

Andrews had already saved a header from the striker on 90 minutes but, deep into injury time, Sargeson reacted the quickest to a loose ball after following another Andrews save to snatch the points from close range.
