HERE is my open letter to the board and management at Blackburn Rovers:

It is quite clear that despite injuries to the playing staff of Blackburn Rovers, the current squad we have is not capable of maintaining Premiership status.

Is it not about time that you, as the people who ultimately govern the direction of this cub, take the decision to release funds, to enable Mr Souness to ensure the Premiership status of Blackburn Rovers Football Club?

There are obvious deficiencies, in that we are struggling in midfield, we are struggling in central defence and Lord alone knows, we are struggling in attack.

There is no doubt at all that the board would love to see Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke re-live their glory days at Manchester United. Realistically it ain't gonna happen. We released Corrado Grabbi for no fee thus writing off about £10 million including wages. We sold David Dunn for £5.5 million to Birmingham City and Damien Duff to Chelsea for £17.5 million.

What is worse, £5 million in debt or £20 million pounds loss plus for relegation? I cannot understand why you as a board are not prepared to allow the manager freedom to take this magnificent club forward.

ALAN VERNON,

Lytham Road, Blackburn.
