AN elderly pedestrian has lost her fight for life after suffering serious injuries in a road traffic accident.
Police are anxious to contact a doctor and nurse who tended 85-year-old Mrs Annie Loughrey at the scene in Bury Old Road, Prestwich, near Orange Hill Road.
The elderly widow was in collision with a Ford Fiesta car, driven by an 83-year-old Whitefield man, as she was crossing the road at 9am on Thursday.
Following the collision, a man who was travelling south along the road in a silver Mercedes got out of his car. He said he was a doctor and went over to the woman who was lying on the ground.
Another woman in a nurse's uniform also joined him and they tried to help the badly injured pensioner who lived in Sealand House in Bury New Road. She was rushed to North Manchester General Hospital where she died later the same day.
Inspector Andy Hudson, head of Bury police divisional traffic unit, said: "The doctor has been described as wearing a turban and carrying a stethoscope and the woman stated that she was a midwife. We would like to talk to both of these kind people as they could hold vital information."
Information can be passed to the Bury traffic unit on (0161) 856 8072.
