A LORRY driver who reversed up a motorway slip road to pick up tarpaulin which had blown off his vehicle has been banned for 12 months.
Roger John Hoddinott, aged 59, of Betley Street, Radcliffe, was also fined £400 with £60 costs by Rochdale magistrates.
And Hoddinott, who admitted dangerous driving, will have to take an extended re-test to regain a full licence.
Miss Marion Nolan, prosecuting, said a police officer driving down the slip road at Birch Services on the M62 saw the lorry reversing, causing other vehicles to swerve or stop.
Police closed the lane and spoke to Hoddinott.
He said that the tarpaulin had come loose and had blown off the lorry. He reversed a short distance to retrieve it.
Derwan Harvey, defending, said: "It was a mistake. He should have contacted the police immediately but he felt the position was such that the sheeting could have caused an accident and he reversed a short distance towards it."
