This problem has existed since the council was formed and the lack of a letter box is causing concern to councillors who fear that important correspondence may be delayed or even lost.
WYRE Street Mill, the haunt of Padiham's pigeon population, was sealed to stop the birds using it. However, youngsters, obviously pigeon lovers, have broken more windows in the mill so the pigeons are once again in residence.
THE committee of the Community Safety Health and Social Welfare group will meet with Keith Osbourne of United Utilities to discuss the fluoridation of Padiham's water. They feel that the public must be involved in this issue because their opinions are important.
RESIDENTS of the new estate at the top of Langdale Road are concerned that a grit bin is not in place for their use in icy weather. Borough councillors suggested that one could be placed on the corner of the already established estate. DEPUTY Mayor Councillor Mark Jinkinson reported from the Economic Regeneration, Housing and Leisure Group who had met Mike Birdsall, Head of Properties for Burnley Borough Council. There had been talk of developing the ballroom at the Town Hall. The council were under the impression that the capacity at the ballroom was 150 but Mr Birdsall informed them that the actual number was 200. This limit is set by the number of fire exits and toilet facilities available.
To cater for more people the ladies lavatories would have to be increased from three cubicles to four or five. This had great cost implications. Councillor Howard Hudson felt that 200 was an acceptable number in any case without going to excessive expense for a greater number of people.
THERE are vacancies for two councillors in the Stockbridge and Green wards. The notice about the vacancies expired today. The council were informed that it was not mandatory to co-opt any applicant who was not considered suitable but the clerk warned members of the council that Burnley Borough Council have the power to appoint if Padiham Council delay too long.
HAPTON Parish Council was held on Tuesday at the village school. Members of the public who attended raised concerns about the on-going problem of vandalism in the village.
