A WOMAN who spent a month fighting for life after she is believed to have been run over in Nelson town centre has been taken off life support.
Mother-of-three Jane Loughlin, 40, has been sitting up and talking to members of her family who have kept a 24-hour vigil at her bedside since she was found with serious injuries on November 30.
Her mother Margaret Leonard, 63, of North Street, Colne, has offered a £1,500 reward for information about what happened to Jane, after police described the incident as a mystery.
Jane, from Burnley Road, Colne, was found with serious multiple injuries, including a fractured collar bone, broken ribs and internal injuries at the junction of Walton Lane and Leeds Road in Nelson at 2.50am.
Police believe she may have been run over while lying in the road.
Mrs Leonard, of North Street, Colne, joined Jane's husband Dave and Jane's six siblings and three children in keeping watch at her bedside throughout the time she was unconscious.
Mrs Leonard said: "Jane has been taken off the life support machine and she's breathing for herself.
"She's been talking to us but she doesn't remember anything about what happened to her.
"She knows nothing about the accident, she just remembers being at home and it's quite upsetting to her when we try to ask about it.
"It's like a miracle to us. I'm very pleased, it's unbelievable that she's like this. When we first saw her lying there in the hospital I didn't think she'd make it.
"Everyone in the family is just over the moon and we really want to thank the staff because they have been 110 per cent and it's wonderful.
"All we really need now is for someone to give the police information about what actually happened on the night of the accident."
Detective Sergeant David Fleming, of Nelson CID, said: "We are not ruling anything out at this stage but we believe her injuries are the result of a road traffic accident, though exactly what happened is a total mystery at the moment."
Anyone with information can call Nelson CID on 01282 472643.
