MORE community safety wardens are needed to help patrol the streets of the borough.

But interested parties will have to move fast: the deadline for applications is next Wednesday, January 21.

Mr Ged McGee, wardens manager and Bury Council's head of community safety, said: "Our wardens provide a uniformed presence, acting as the eyes and ears of the council and other agencies.

"Their role, among other things, is to deter anti-social behaviour, report suspicious incidents to the appropriate departments and serve as Bury's ambassadors to visitors and local people."

Successful candidates need to be mature, good communicators and use common sense to solve problems. Training will be given, leading to recognised qualifications.

The council is particularly keen to hear from disabled people, ethnic minorities, lone parents and those returning to work after a break. It also wants recruits for its award-winning Techno Team, which undertakes more hands-on environmental work.

For more information, phone 0161 253 6181 and collect an application pack from the wardens' office at 76 The Rock, Bury (on the first floor above Lunn Poly). Alternatively, contact your local Job Centre.
