METROLINK services face disruption tomorrow (Jan 17) when half the company's 160 drivers stage a second 24-hour strike.
This second walkout (the first was on New Year's Day) is the latest move in a dispute over trade union ASLEF claiming recognition from service operators Serco Metrolink.
However, due to a single union agreement which was put in place with the backing of the TUC, the TGWU currently has exclusive negotiating rights for all Metrolink staff. Serco say they have no powers to change the agreement.
Phil Smith, managing director, said: "We will do everything to reduce the disruption to passengers but would advise that they allow extra time for their journey." Services could be disrupted from 10pm today. Serco Metrolink has been told the TUC General Secretary has referred the case to the TUC disputes committee for resolution. A reduced service will operate. A 15-minute service will commence from: 8am: Bury-city centre direct (change at St Peters Square for Piccadilly Station). 8.07am: Altrincham-city centre (change at St Peters Square for Piccadilly Station). 8.06am: Eccles-Piccadilly Station. Last services from the city centre: 8.02pm: Market Street, Manchester-Bury 7.57pm: St Peter's Square-Altrincham.
8.07pm: Piccadilly Station-Eccles. For further information contact Metrolink customer services on 205 2000.
