AN OVERTON pub has a new regular customer for its pub grub... a male mute swan nicknamed Charlie.
He dumps his natural habitat on the banks of the Lune every day in favour of the Golden Ball pub - knocking on the front door with his beak to order his bar snack.
The cheeky chap has been making his guest appearances since October and shows no sign of moving on, says landlady Sheila Medic.
"We found him in the road one day outside the pub and called the RSPCA but he took off. He came back later when the coast was clear and we nursed him back to health. Then he just adopted us.
"He is very cheeky and if we don't answer the front door when he taps then he goes round to the back door."
But Mrs Medic has no qualms about Charlie - thought to be about two years old - being around customers, because she says he is not vicious.
When cheeky Charlie is not at the pub he goes back to the marsh area at the other side of the River Lune where Mrs Medic knows he does not live alone.
"Sometimes he turns up with his partner and children for a bit of a nosey around - it is like a family outing," she says.
