A NATIONWIDE poster campaign has failed to produce any fresh leads in the hunt for missing Blackpool teenager, Charlene Downes.

As reported in last week's The Citizen, a poster has been produced by the National Missing Persons Helpline featuring a snapshot of the 14-year-old schoolgirl who disappeared on November 1.

It was hoped the poster, which was launched on December 30, would help jog witness memories after being distributed to hundreds of police stations throughout the UK. But the helpline -- which is dedicated to helping to find and support missing people and their families -- report that nobody has yet come forward with further information.

A National Missing Persons spokeswoman said: "It's now approaching two weeks since Charlene's poster was sent to police stations across the UK.

"We've not had a response as yet but it's still early stages and we're confident that by keeping Charlene in the public eye and through regular police appeals we will make some progress in the search for Charlene."

It is now ten weeks since Charlene vanished from her home on Buchanan Street in the resort.

More than 30 officers, led by Detective Superintendent Paul Buschini, have been assigned to the police investigation into her whereabouts.

Charlene is described as 5ft 1ins tall, of slim build with straight shoulder-length dark brown hair and blue eyes.

When last seen she was wearing a black jumper with white diamonds, black boots and black jeans with a distinctive gold eagle motif on the front.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 01253 293933 or National Missing Person Helpline on 0500 700 700.
