A COFFEE thief struck at a shop he was banned from and then ran away from the police, Burnley Magistrates heard.
The court was told how Jason Michael Perry, 31, pulled away from an officer after she later spotted him in the street as she took details of the theft at the store.
Perry, currently subject of a two year community rehabilitation order made at Burnley Crown Court, admitted theft.
The defendant, of Yorkshire Street, Bacup, was fined £50 with £11.50 compensation.
The bench allowed the rehabilitation order, with the Addressing Substance Related Offending programme, to continue.
Christiana Buchanan, prosecuting, told the court under the Clean Up Rossendale East campaign, the defendant had been banned from the Healds Day and Night shop in Bacup. He wouldn't leave and told staff he wanted baby milk for a friend.
He then helped himself to four jars of coffee. Perry was caught after a police chase but the stolen property was not recovered. Duncan Nightingale, defending, said Perry had earlier received a drug testing and treatment order but has not been able to complete it.
The order was later revoked and the community rehabilitation order imposed for theft and affray. The ASBO aspect of the order had not yet started.
