GROUPS across East Lancashire were celebrating today after scooping more than £400,000 in lottery funding.
In the latest round of grants, Blackburn-based group The Ethnic Minorities Development Association secured £148,215 from the Community Fund.
The money will fund a full-time administrator and full-time community development officer and contribute towards running costs.
Burnley has also come up trumps and has been identified as a priority area thanks to specialised outreach work by Community Fund staff.
Burnley group SMILE (Specialist Meditation in Lancashire East Ltd) received £206,771 to increase the number of trained voluntary mediators to increase community cohesion.
In addition the North East Lancashire Association for Mental Health gained £59,957 to assist with its befriending project. The group will recruit volunteers who will who will be trained to develop friendships with one or two people living in Burnley who suffer from mental health problems.
