A learning venue is celebrated its 500th learner just four months after it opened. The Neighbourhood Learning Centre on Pringle Street has hosted a variety of courses and learning opportunities since it opened in July, ranging from English and numeracy to food hygiene.

Residents of Audley and Queens Park have also been invited to go along to the Centre and say what they want to learn, whether it's computing or confidence building.

Past and present students gathered at the centre to celebrate the 500 milestone.

The event featured a performance from school pupils who use the Centre on Saturday mornings for homework, extra studies and testimonials from adults who have taken courses at the new Centre. Saheera Jasat was one of those who gave a testimonial speech. She now works at George at Asda and returned to education and completed a course at the centre.

Councillor Mahfooz Hussain, executive member for education and lifelong learning, said, "To have had 500 learners involved in such a wide range of courses in such a short space of time, is an excellent achievement. I look forward to very soon celebrating our 1000th learner!"
