LEIGH Sixth Form College wasted a good start, going down 4-1 to St Helens.
Leigh carried the game forward early on and should have been ahead before St Helens hit the front with a controversial opener. Two minutes later Leigh gave away possession and St Helens forced a corner which brought a 2-0 deficit.
Leigh responded by pressing forward and in the 42nd minute the reliable Lee Hallworth slotted home his 12th goal of the season. Casual defending allowed St Helens to steal a third goal three minutes into injury time to give them an undeserved 3-1 half time lead.
Leigh pressurised the St Helens team back on the defensive for most of the second half and their continual pressure resulted in a barrage of corners and free kicks but in the dying minutes St Helens capitalised on a defensive error to score an undeserved fourth goal.
