MORE than 250 letters of objection have been sent to a council currently considering plans for a caravan park near Ribchester.
Now a campaign group has been created to fight plans for the park, which would home 79 static caravans.
The Horseshoe Woods Action Group hopes to bring together various parties opposed to the plans for the static caravan project next to David Wood Gate, Dutton.
Objectors say the proposals would swamp the hamlet of Dutton, which is located between Longridge and Ribchester.
A total of 267 letters have been sent to Ribble Valley Council so far, and the campaign group has started a fighting fund to stop the plans.
Among the groups backing the objector are the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England and the Campaign For Dark Skies.
Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans is also lending his support. He said: "Many people are concerned about stripping rural assets in the Ribble Valley and it is evident this proposal has created a swell of public criticism.
"We have a responsibility to protect Davis Wood Gate for the benefit of the abundant wildlife and on behalf of the many people who visit the area to enjoy its natural assets and rural heritage."
It has not yet been decided when the planning application will go before Ribble Valley Council.
An article in last Thursday's Lancashire Evening Telegraph quoted a member of the action group as saying that local people had a responsibility 'to protect the area from people coming to the Ribble Valley'.
The quote should have said protecting the area 'for' people coming to the Ribble Valley. We apologise for the error.
