A WOMAN delighted staff at Burnley General Hospital after raising cash at a birthday party with a difference.
Esme Sutcliffe, from Burnley, celebrated her 60th birthday by throwing a party and asking friends and family to donate to the hospital rather than buying her presents.
Mrs Sutcliffe had a stroke 27 years ago and was treated at Burnley General Hospital on Ward 17, which has since been demolished.
The Stroke Unit was set up nearly four years ago on Ward 10 and has a multi-disciplinary approach to treating patients which involves the patient in all aspects of planning their care.
Mrs Sutcliffe is pictured presenting her cheque for £497 to staff.
Barbara Law, ward manager, said: "This was a very kind gesture by Mrs Sutcliffe which is very much appreciated. We will be using the money to buy a wheelchair for patients."
