A MAN involved in a row with his bride's family vented his anger by throwing a brick through the rear window of a police car, a court was told.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Mudassar Shamim had followed his wife to her parents' home in Aberdare Close, Blackburn, accompanied by two associates.

The police impounded the car they had travelled in. As it was being secured Shamim, shouted to the officers and then threw the brick.

Shamim, 20, of Waters Edge, Bolton, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and, on a separate occasion, going equipped for theft. He was ordered to do 60 hours community punishment, made subject to a community rehabilitation order for 18 months and ordered to pay £300 compensation to the Police Authority.

Basharat Ditta, defending, said Shamim had embarked on a relationship with an Asian girl from Blackburn and her parents had disapproved

"They frowned on the liaison and threats were made against my client," said Mr Ditta. "Eventually they ran away and married and her family were not happy at all."

He said that outside influences caused difficulties and Mrs Shamim had returned to her parents' home where the disturbance took place.

"He sought out his wife and accepts that when the car was impounded he vented his frustrations on the police car," said Mr Ditta.

"He and his wife are reconciled and they have left Blackburn as a result of threats and intimidation."
