SO THE battle to revitalise Morecambe has begun. It's only a pity that our MP is on the other side.
She describes the proposed development of the old bus depot as unpopular, illogical and perverse.
Unpopular, because some residents are against it, though she claimed it was a majority a week ago. Illogical, probably because she didn't think of it. And perverse? What is perverse is that an MP who has been in office for seven years and did nothing to block other proposed developments, such as Aldi, now opposes this one.
Ms Smith calls the consultation 'weak', which is to be expected in the absence of the result she wanted. It is very clear, that despite her protestations, English Partnerships have made no firm offers. Even if they did, what would they do? Sit on it and wait for yet another action plan.
The Morecambe Action Plan is already there and she helped write it. Page 70 clearly indicates the site is appropriate for housing if they could find a developer. Well, they have done.
With 18 months to the next General Election, isn't it time Ms Smith stopped such electioneering and started representing the silent majority who want to see this embarrassing eyesore disposed of.
