A SECURITY guard held onto a bundle of cash and dashed into a building society when two men jumped him.
He was one of a team of three Securicor workers making a cash delivery to Abbey National, Morecambe, on Monday evening when the offenders appeared - striking one of the guards on his back.
But the guards ran for cover in the building society on Euston Road and the attackers made off without any cash.
One of the raiders is described as white, five-feet-10-inches tall and wearing a blue hooded woollen jacket.
Police are keen to track down two men seen sitting on a nearby bench prior to the attack to eliminate them from enquiries.
And they are urging shops in the area to study CCTV films and report anything that may be of assistance. Anyone with information should call Morecambe CID on 01524-596941 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
