CORONATION Street fans on Wednesday saw history in the making when an Atherton star made his romantic debut.
When Street youngblood Tyrone proclaimed his undying love for dizzy seamstress Fizz, he did so in style -- on a white charger named Blue belonging to Hindsford farmer Mark Lancaster.
"As far as I am aware Blue is the first horse to appear in the Street," said Mark, who has owned the 16.2 hands hunter since he was a foal.
Not that trotting up and down the Street caused any worry for Blue.
"He's fearless, and he'll jump anything, even though he only had a kerb or two to cope with.
"Blue met most of the cast. He's a bit of a character, a rum lad really. The actors made a real fuss of him and Martin Platt also rode him up the street.
"He'd have supped a pint if they had offered him one, but he prefers Holts to Newton and Ridleys!"
The two or three minute scene took three hours of filming before Christmas and while the Lancasters were delighted to be rubbing shoulders with the soap stars it was Blue who grabbed the limelight after Suzanna's elder sister, Kate, taught Tyrone (Alan Halsall) to ride.
And did Blue get a chance to see himself on the box?
Well Mark did consider letting him get his nose in the kitchen door at Lodge Farm to watch telly, but decided Blue would rather satisfy his huge appetite with an extra bucket of food in the comfort of his stable.
