THE Village Hotel & Leisure Club in Prestwich has been put up for sale by owners De Vere Group.
It is one of four Village hotels which have been put on the market following a review by Warrington-based De Vere.
Located in George Street, Prestwich, the Village was built in 1981 as a privately-owned squash club with 12 courts, bar and restaurant. Since then, the hotel has expanded rapidly and now has 40 rooms and a leisure club.
De Vere say the four hotels are now up for sale because they "no longer fitted the brand profile, even though they were still successful and profitable".
Richard Grey, the general manager at Prestwich, said: "Although it will be sad to part company with the De Vere group and the many advantages that being part of a large group brings, I think the future for the hotel and its staff will be extremely positive. The hotel will be sold as a going concern, which I hope will safeguard jobs.
He went on: "The hotel and leisure club is still extremely popular with local people and I am sure that it will still hold a key position in the area."
