CHARITY has gone to the head of Radcliffe landlord Steve Waller.
Steve (43), who runs the Mason's Arms in Sion Street, volunteered to have his head shaved at a fund-raising evening for St Ann's Hospice and Cancer Research last Friday.
"It was only mentioned in passing at first, but before I knew it my wife Diane had already started collecting sponsorship," he said. Performing the shearing honours was mobile hairdresser and beauty consultant, Alicia Dodd, who was cheered on by pub regulars. The event raised more than £350 for charity but although Steve parted with the hair on his head, he refused to lose his treasured moustache which he has had since the age of 15.
More money was raised on the night from an exhibition darts match given by Kevin Painter, the recent runner-up to Phil Taylor at the Ladbrokes.com PDC World Championship.
