A POLICEMAN patrolling at 2.30am was suspicious when he saw a young man walking in the pouring rain in Feniscowles, Blackburn, wearing only a grey suit.
And after finding a Toyota car key in the man's possession the officer linked him to a car of that make which had crashed in Belmont and then been abandoned by the driver.
Zain Arif Mohammed, 23, of Wimberley Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £100 with £35 costs.
Mohammed, who gave a reading of 115 against the legal limit of 80, agreed to be referred to the drink-drive rehabilitation programme .
Charlotte Crane, prosecuting, said that when he was first approached, Mohammed said he had been visiting a friend in Feniscowles but couldn't remember where he lived.
Mohammed told the court he had been stupid for drinking and driving and apologised for his behaviour.
