I AM grateful to Mr Norman Walsh of Sudell Close, Darwen, for pointing out that the issue regarding the debate about spending in Darwen and Blackburn is about "monies from council tax" and not about "perceived improvements due to government or European grants" (Letters, January 17).
If Mr Walsh examines the figures for the council's revenue budget (where monies from council tax are spent) he will find that Blackburn with Darwen Council spends £1,820 per head in Blackburn and £1,828 per head in Darwen! (2002/03).
Given these official figures, no doubt there will now be a flood of letters from disgruntled Blackburners complaining that Darwen gets more than its fair share!
COUN DAVID SMITH (Sunnyhurst Ward), Woodbank Avenue, Darwen.
