ROSSENDALE United FC are gearing up for a charity football match against a Manchester United eleven in memory of popular soccer fanatic David Taylor.
David, 25, of Greendale Avenue, Newchurch, who died after a night out in Rawtenstall, was a keen supporter of both teams.
Police revealed that he died following a single headbutt or punch.
Andrew McDonald, 19, of Granby Road, Manchester, pleaded guilty to David's manslaughter when he made a brief appearance at Preston Crown Court earlier this month.
He admitted unlawfully killing David on July 17 last year and was bailed by Judge Peter Openshaw QC until March 22, for sentence.
David's body was discovered slumped in a shop doorway in Bank Street in July last year.
Wednesday night will see a clash between Rossendale United past and present players and Manchester United Reserves.
Kevin Proctor, secretary, at the Unibond First club, said: "The club can't give us any promises as to who will be there on the night.
"The name Solskjaer was mentioned but he apparently went down in training so we don't really know who will be coming but I am sure there will be a few famous faces among them.
"Manchester United have done us proud. When this first happened we asked if it would be possible to arrange a match in memory of David and they couldn't have been more helpful.
"David was a Manchester United fan and a Rossendale fan, he loved everything about football which makes this so fitting.
"We are asking some of Rossendale's former players to play, such as Craig Sargeson, Jason Heffernan, Jerome Fitzgerald, and Dave Gray.
"We already have Steve Cunningham and Steve Bird back at the club so it should be entertaining for the fans."
There will be entertainment during the half time break from Rossendale girls and youth teams.
David's parents, Caroline and David have asked for money raised from the match to be donated to a disabled child with a sporting aspiration.
The match starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 for adults and £2.50 for children and OAPs and are available from M&T Newsagents in Crawshawbooth, The Royal Hotel, Waterfoot, the Jolly Sailor and Rossendale United.
Tickets will also be available on the night.
