PRESTWICH HEYS...0
EAST MANCHESTER...0
THE last time Heys failed to score in a league game was at the end of August last year and that coincided with the last time they were beaten.
Since then they have gone 15 games without losing, winning 10 and drawing five.
This game against East Manchester was a close one, as the scoreline suggests.
But Heys have only themselves to blame, creating enough chances to have won the game comfortably.
Matters weren't helped when skipper Derek Watson was injured after just 20 minutes, replaced by Steve Orrell.
But Heys stuck to the job in hand and just about shaded the first half without getting any breaks in front of goal.
In defence they were sound with 16-year-old Oliver McGee again demonstrating his abilities.
However, on the day Marvin Walters took the man-of-the-match accolade with his defensive abilities and first rate distribution.
East Manchester are a good footballing side and they contributed to making the game a good one to watch, despite the obvious lack of goals.
Action in the second half was end-to-end, with Luke in the East goal the busier of the two keepers.
Play throughout had been competitive but fair with the referee allowing the game to flow without having to resort unduly to his whistle.
That is, until the last 15 minutes when he saw fit to caution four players, two from each side.
The flow of the game by then had become disjointed with Heys having the best chance to grab all thee points when Orrell's shot went agonisingly past the far post.
Overall, a draw was probably a fair result, however, the loss of two points and Royton Town's win at New Mills saw Heys drop to second in the league table.
HEYS: Rooney, Dydyna, Cunningham, Walters, McGee, Woodcock, Kavanagh, Lyons, Garrick, Uddin, Watson. Sub: Orrell.
Tomorrow Heys are away to third-placed Leigh Athletic, two points adrift of Heys, kick-off 2pm.
The reserves are at home to East Manchester, kick-off 2pm, and will be looking for another three points, having won 1-0 last week at Dukinfield - thanks to a Monks goal - who had previously only lost one game all season
