BLACKBURN defender Lorenzo Amoruso has suffered a setback in his bid to return from injury.
The former Rangers star, who has been sidelined for the last three months following knee surgery, was hoping to make a first team return in the next fortnight.
But I can reveal the 31-year-old Italian has broken down in training after picking up a calf injury.
And that will delay his comeback plans by at least another week, much to the frustration of Rovers boss Graeme Souness, which means he is likely to miss the games against Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Newcastle.
"Lorenzo has broken down after damaging his calf and that will set him back at least another week or so," said a disappointed Souness.
"I'm not even going to put a date on when he might return because that's a dangerous thing to do.
"He did it in training and when you've been out for so long like he has, you always worry about aggravating something else."
Souness has seen his squad decimated by a catalogue of injuries this season.
Craig Short, Steven Reid and Amoruso have all spent lengthy spells on the sidelines, while David Thompson and Barry Ferguson are still on the long-term injury list.
However, Souness moved to bolster his resources last night by completing the signing of Michael Gray from Sunderland -- as we predicted in yesterday's paper.
Gray has signed a two and a half year contract after Rovers negotiated a deal with Sunderland.
And the 29-year-old former England star, who can play anywhere down the left, could be in line for his debut against Chelsea on Sunday.
"It is very exciting for me, not only to be joining a big club like Blackburn, but also to be back in the Premiership. I'm really delighted with the move," said Gray.
Souness was also delighted with his latest capture: "He has a good pedigree and we are pleased to welcome him aboard."
Fans are advised to check if tonight's FA Youth Cup game between Rovers and West Brom is still definitely on before travelling to Morecambe's Christie Park.
