POLICE have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to a smash which left a schoolboy seriously injured.
The Burnley youngster, 14, is still in a "poorly" condition today after undergoing on operation on his chest and stomach at Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool.
His father, the driver of the car involved in the crash on Mount Lane, Cliviger, on Sunday, was recovering in Burnley General Hospital with a broken leg.
Police have not named the father and son as they are still trying to trace members of their extended family to notify them of the accident. Officers are particularly keen to trace a motorist who may hold the key to the cause of the crash, which happened at shortly after 1pm on Sunday.
Police said the father claims he was forced to swerve his white Volkswagen Golf to avoid another vehicle coming down the hill before hitting the kerb and colliding with a large tree.
The car then spun round and came to rest facing back down the hill.
Anyone with information should call PC Karl Anderson on 01282 472542 or Pennine police on 01282 425001.
