A £500,000 mobile nursery scheme could get under way in rural Ribble Valley if ambitious plans get the go-ahead.
A meeting to discuss the proposed scheme was held in Ribble Valley Council chambers on Friday was and attended by representatives of Ribble Valley Borough Council, Trinity Community Partnership, the library service, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Primary Care Trust, Clitheroe Hospital, Homestart, Lancashire County Council and local schools.
The meeting heard some mums have a 10-mile drive to the nearest nursery in Clitheroe and there is only one childminder between several villages in the Forest of Bowland.
The meeting also heard that children in rural areas are socially isolated and many rural families nurseries cannot afford expensive nursery fees.
Ribble Valley district partnership officer Jan Styan, who chaired the meeting, said that as well as the mobile nursery proposal, there were two other potential schemes that could be implemented. She added funding would be sought to improve childcare provision in the area.
