A CAMPAIGNING councillor is threatening to increase the pressure on people who 'fly tip' rubbish in Lancaster.
Cllr Sheila Denwood says she is urging city officials to prosecute anyone caught in the act of dumping rubbish illegally.
It follows an incident when pest control officers had to be called to deal with a rat infestation at the rear of shops and flats in Greaves Road.
That was just the latest in a series of illegal dumpings reported in her Scotforth West ward, Cllr Denwood says.
"It is hard to relate how many complaints I receive from people in the streets and through letters and phone calls every week about discarded rubbish and litter around the area.
"The fact is that the law is being broken and that means possible prosecution for anyone caught dumping rubbish on land to which the public have access."
o Anyone who spots any fly tipping can call the council's special collection service on 01524-582491.
