Traffic in Preston came to a standstill on Wednesday after six slates fell off the roof of a city centre church.
Firefighters, police and council officers were called to Fishergate Baptist Church after workers at Right Move, in Fishergate, reported roof slates falling onto the pavement below.
Traffic was redirected away from the road which was cordoned off between Corporation Street and Lune Street.
Queues of traffic formed around the immediate areas with more than 40 cars backed up on Mount Street which had been redirected from the bottom of Chapel Street near Winckley Square.
A building control officer from Preston City Council was called in to help firefighters from Penwortham and Preston determine the damage.
Onlookers watched as they used an aerial ladder to examine the roof only to discover a further 20 slates loose.
The situation was diffused within the hour when all the slates had been removed.
