CULCHETH WI is going to war on nuisance telephone calls.
Members have obtained and publicised the telephone number to call to cut down on unsolicited advertising.
New president and secretary Pat Forrest and Betty Jones opened the meeting which heard that a collection box for odd change will be on the table in future to gather donations for the WI charity, Associated Countrywomen of the World.
Speaker Jenny Rose told of the joys and difficulties of fostering. She and her husband have cared for 105 children in the past 25 years and she stressed that there was a great shortage of people to do this valuable work.
A bone density testing session took place on Tuesday along with a card making session.
The next meeting is on February 17 when Brian Dixon will speak about Mary Queen of Scots.
Dates for the diary include a Newchurch WI coffee morning on March 10, a group meeting in Culcheth Parish Hall on April 28 and a tour of John Bent's garden on April 22.
Two theatre visits are also planned, one to the Lowry on March 3 to see "The Shell Seekers" and the other to "Holiday on Ice" around Easter.
