Oldham St Annes 14 Leigh Miners Rangers 28: FOUR tries from Aussie centre Ben Condon set Leigh Miners Rangers on their way to an Arriva Trains Conference League double over St Annes.
For the first 30 minutes the game was wide open with the Miners' Darren Pilkington and Saints' Danny Kay, both being hauled down within sight of the tryline. The Miners took the lead when outstanding skipper Tommy Goulden went round the blind side of a scrum and put Dave Patterson under the posts for a try goaled by Dave Radley.
Sound defence by the Miners kept Saints out, although Richard Badby did get across the line but was unable to ground.
The Miners weathered the storm and increased their lead when Condon picked up a loose ball and raced 40 metres for his first try in the corner and a 10-0 interval lead.
Neil Donlan went close for the Miners at the start of the second half and Shaun Daley was cut down just short. But the ball was moved wide by Alan Reddicliffe and Condon powered in for his second.
Saints kept plugging away and were rewarded with a Lee Kemp try goaled by Badby but any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed as Condon went in to complete his hat-trick.
On the hour mark a lobbed pass by Radley gave Condon his fourth. Radley added the goal.
Good work from Anthony Platt gave Emerson Jackman a Saints try but with 10 minutes left Chris Humphries scored the sixth Miners try to cement the victory that moves them into seventh place in the table.
