A MAN was arrested for attacking the person he believed was responsible for breaking into his car and stealing the radio, a court was told.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Jeffrey Trevor Aldridge, 23, was abusive towards police when they intervened.
And the court was told the incident and his subsequent appearance in court capped a horrendous start to the year for the former brewery worker.
Aldridge, of Oban Drive, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £55 costs.
Stephen Parker, defending, said Aldridge had gone in to work at Whitbreads on January 1 only to be told that he was being laid off.
"On the night of this incident he had gone out and spent what was left of his Christmas wage," said Mr Parker. He said the man with whom Aldridge was involved in a scuffle had previously been identified to him as the man responsible for breaking into his car.
