A BURNLEY schoolboy seriously injured in a country lane smash at the weekend has been named by police.
Luke Craig, 14, of Griffin Close, was thrown from the VW Golf which was driven by his father Neil Sheridan, 35, of Coal Clough Lane, during the accident on Mount Lane, Cliviger.
Luke was still in a "poorly" condition today after undergoing on operation on his chest and stomach at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.
Mr Sheridan was recovering in Burnley General Hospital with a broken leg.
Police are particularly keen to trace the driver of a blue Citroen Saxo who may hold the key to the cause of the crash, which happened shortly after 1pm on Sunday, and to talk to witnesses who may have seen the white Golf.
Officers said Mr Sheridan claims he was forced to swerve his car to avoid another vehicle coming down the hill before hitting the kerb and colliding with a large tree.
Anyone with information should call PC Karl Anderson on 01282 472542 or Pennine police on 01282 425001.
