ONE of Bury's small business advisers has become the first in the authority to achieve Technology Means Business accreditation.
Brian Berry, the council's business network officer, has achieved the accreditation following distance learning work begun in November, 2002. Mr Berry's previous position as a Transco senior project manager assisted him in his studies and in meeting the standard.
TMB is the industry standard for those providing integrated business and information communication technology advice to small firms. Technology Means Business accreditation guarantees advisers have matched the stringent criteria, in terms of quality and knowledge, to gain accreditation. Its introduction into the business support network at Bury Council will have significant direct benefits for the small businesses in the area.
Paul Frimston, of the University of Central Lancashire, said: "As small businesses in Bury continue to develop their e-business strategies, it is vital that they have access to reliable, integrated business and ICT-related advice."
Councillor Tim Chamberlain, executive member for regeneration and housing, said: "It is essential for small businesses in Bury to understand how appropriate the use of ICT is to improve their effectiveness and efficiency."
