IF Blackburn Rovers do snap up a striker before the transfer window closes I think they need one with Premiership quality and experience - and Everton's Tomasz Radzinski falls in to that category.
I know the Goodison Park club have spurned Rovers' advances but Radzinski is the type of player that could do a job at Ewood Park and get us out of trouble.
For while he is quick with an eye for goal, the most important thing is that he knows all about the Premiership.
It's all very well bringing in a foreign striker but he needs time to adapt to the pace and physical side of the English game - and time is something Rovers don't have right now.
They've got a relegation fight on their hands and they need a player who can slot straight in and start scoring goals immediately.
You would be very lucky if a player brought in from abroad could make such an impact. The problem is that every club seems to be after a striker at the moment.
Maybe that is why Graeme Souness is showing an interest in Huddersfield Town's Jonathan Stead - I just hope he is eyeing him as one for the future.
For he would have to be an exceptional player to be able to jump from playing Division Three football straight in to the Premiership. He is not the answer to our current problem.
It would be great to see Rovers bring in a new hit man by the end of the week but, if not, they still have the luxury of having four strikers in Yorke, Cole, Jansen and Gallagher - and maybe they are the players to get us out of trouble.
I THINK the plan for a winter break is a great idea - I just wish it was around when I was still playing!
Having a mid-season break gives clubs a chance to get the squad fit and ready for the run-in and players a chance to re-charge their batteries.
The only question remaining is when is the best time to have the two-week shut down. It might be worth having a look at when the worst weather is - but then you can never predict the weather in this country can you!
